Sacramento’s Pocket Neighborhood Finally Has the Restaurant It Deserves

Sacramento’s Pocket neighborhood — sometimes called Pocket-Greenhaven — is one of the city’s most established residential communities. Tucked between the Sacramento River and Interstate 5, it’s home to tree-lined streets, strong schools, and a growing food scene that’s finally catching up to what the neighborhood deserves.

The Pocket Is Getting Its Own Identity

For years, Pocket residents had to drive to Midtown, East Sacramento, or Downtown for a quality dining experience. That’s changing. New restaurants and concepts are opening along Rush River Drive and the surrounding area, bringing the kind of food and drink options that neighborhoods like Land Park and Curtis Park have enjoyed for years.

The latest addition is Block Craft Beer + Kitchen, which opened in early 2026 in the former Device Brewing space at 7485 Rush River Drive. It’s a full-service restaurant and craft beer bar with 16 rotating taps, an elevated food menu, and a community-first philosophy that fits the Pocket’s character perfectly.

What Makes Block Craft Beer + Kitchen Different

Block Craft Beer + Kitchen isn’t trying to be a Midtown cocktail bar or a Downtown gastropub. It’s built for the Pocket — a neighborhood where families, retirees, young professionals, and longtime residents all live side by side. The owners, Jason Jokerst and Tim Giordano, designed every detail with that mix in mind:

  • Family-friendly atmosphere with video games for kids and a dedicated kids menu
  • Huge outdoor patio that’s pet-friendly and perfect for Sacramento’s long warm seasons
  • 16 rotating craft taps featuring local Sacramento breweries like Urban Roots, Sacrament Brewing, and Tioga-Sequoia
  • Elevated food that goes beyond pub fare — wagyu burgers, shaved ribeye Philly Dips, and beignets with beer caramel
  • Non-alcoholic options including hard kombucha, seltzer, and wine for non-beer drinkers
  • Community events like trivia nights and open mic

Supporting Local

One of the things that sets Block Craft Beer + Kitchen apart is their commitment to featuring Sacramento-area breweries on tap. On any given day, you might find pours from Urban Roots (Oak Park), Sacrament Brewing, Boring Rose Brewing, and Feather Falls Brewing (Oroville). They also partner with regional favorites from Nevada and the Pacific Northwest.

The tap list rotates regularly and updates live on their website — pulled directly from Untappd so you always know what’s pouring before you walk in.

A Neighborhood Gathering Spot

The name “Block” is intentional. Block distractions. Block in time with your family, friends, and community. Come find your Block. In a neighborhood that’s always valued community connections, that’s exactly the kind of place the Pocket needed.

As KCRA 3 reported when Block Craft Beer + Kitchen opened, it’s filling a gap that the Pocket has felt since Device Brewing closed its doors — and doing it with more ambition and more heart.
