Finding a restaurant in Sacramento where the whole family feels welcome — where the food is actually good, the kids aren’t just tolerated, and you can relax on a patio with a cold drink — isn’t always easy. Block Craft Beer + Kitchen in Sacramento’s Pocket neighborhood was designed from day one to be exactly that kind of place.
A Restaurant That Actually Welcomes Kids
Block Craft Beer + Kitchen isn’t just “kid-friendly” in the way that means there’s a single coloring page at the hostess stand. The owners, Jason Jokerst and Tim Giordano, built the space with families in mind from the start. Here’s what that looks like:
- Video games for kids — Arcade-style games that keep kids entertained so parents can actually finish a conversation
- A real kids menu — Chicken tenders, grilled cheese with fries, and a cheeseburger with fries. Not an afterthought.
- A huge outdoor patio — Plenty of room for kids to move around without anyone giving you looks
- Non-alcoholic options — Kombucha, seltzer, and other options so designated drivers and non-drinkers have great choices too
The Outdoor Patio
Sacramento weather is built for outdoor dining, and Block Craft Beer + Kitchen takes full advantage. The patio is one of the largest in the Pocket/Greenhaven area — big enough for birthday parties, team celebrations, or just a lazy Sunday afternoon with the family. It’s also pet-friendly, so the dog can come too.
Food the Whole Family Will Love
The menu hits a sweet spot between elevated and approachable. Adults get wagyu-blend burgers, a Philly Dip with real shaved ribeye, and beignets with beer caramel for dessert. Kids get familiar favorites done right. Nobody’s stuck eating something they don’t want.
And while the parents enjoy a craft beer from the 16 rotating taps, there’s no pressure to drink — the vibe is more “community gathering spot” than “bar.”
Why the Pocket Neighborhood Needed This
The Pocket and Greenhaven area of Sacramento has long been a family-oriented community, but dining options have been limited. When Device Brewing closed, the space at 7485 Rush River Drive sat empty — until Jokerst and Giordano saw an opportunity to create something the neighborhood was missing: a place where families, friends, and neighbors could gather over good food and drink.
As KCRA 3 covered in their segment on the opening, Block Craft Beer + Kitchen was built around the idea that a restaurant should be a community living room. The name says it: Block distractions. Block in time with the people who matter.
